Over 1000 Tibetans living in New York and New Jersey elected new Regional Tibetan Youth Congress leaders last Sunday.
As many as 1008 people gathered at the Tibetan Community Hall in Queens in New York City to elect the new members. This is a record turnout for any kind of election in the history of Tibetan elections in the New York and New Jersey area.
A group of eleven board members were elected in an unprecedented landslide victory.
This was the thirteenth group of members in the history of the New York/New Jersey RTYC. Board member elections are held every three years.
The former President Mr Ngawang Palden, who secured the second highest number of votes in the first election, was then voted in on the second election by the people, to retain the post for the new three-year term.
