Conservative party of Canada has called on China to stop the persecution of people who practice their religion or belief including Christians, Tibetans and Uyghurs.
In a statement issued on the 62nd anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day, Canadian Leader of the Opposition Erin O’Toole said Canada must stand behind those who advocate for religious freedom.
The Conservative party leader paid tribute to “the brave women and men who sacrificed their lives for the just cause of Tibet”, while noting his support for the nonviolent struggle of the Tibetan people for genuine autonomy, human rights, and justice for the past 62 years, without either malice or compromise.
“This is a great testament to the steadfastness and virtue that characterize His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people,” the statement read.
He further expressed his commitment as a leader of the Conservative party of Canada for safeguarding religious freedom and protection of human rights for those oppressed and facing abuses.
“Conservatives have urged China to stop the persecution of people who practice their religion or belief including Catholics, other Christians, Tibetans, Uyghurs, and Falun Dafa practitioners, including the genocide of the Uyghur people,” the statement read.
“In a time when freedom of religion and belief is under increasing threat internationally, Canada must stand behind those who advocate for religious freedom,” the statement added.
Last month, Canada’s parliament has passed a non-binding motion that says China’s treatment of its Muslim Uyghur minority constitutes genocide.
The motion, sponsored by the opposition Conservative Party, passed by a vote of 266-0 in the House of Commons on Monday, though Trudeau and nearly his entire cabinet abstained.
Tibet was a sovereign state before China’s invasion in 1950 when the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) entered northern Tibet.
The 10th of March is regarded as ‘Tibetan Uprising Day’, dedicated to the patriotism of the heroic men and women of Tibet.
buddhism not a threat to china? are you joking? buddhism teaches helping the weakest to survive to earn karma. so it is the survival of the weakest. buddhist china = weak and weaker china. that is not a problem to china?
Between Tibetans and Uyghurs, Chinese treat Tibetans a lot better. China has not subjected Tibetans to mass incarcerations in camps.
The reason is that Buddhism is not a threat to CCP, but Islam is. China is in fact promoting vajrayana Bhuddhism nowadays, a dramatic change of policy from Mao Zedong era, and garner soft power along the one belt road.
China is particularly concerned with Tibetan independence movement and loyalty to Dalai Lama. As Gyalo Thundup said, Tibetans and Chinese are like brothers, and at a personal level, Tibetans get along a lot better with the Chinese than Indians.
In fact, if you listen to Indian government’s Tibet advisor Amitabh Mathur (2018), just before Modi-Xi meeting in Wuhan in April, he makes it clear that China doesn’t prosecute Tibetans who practice Buddhism but only if they worship Dalai Lama – they have no objection to worshipping Buddha. In the same period, Modi stopped 60 years of Thank You India from happening in Delhi. (as a diversion, conspiracy theory goes that Donald Trump was worried about India-China friendship, as it would tilt the power balance of the world. Hence, they say, a group of US military came to Wuhan in November, and then coronavirus. Interestingly, 5G internet by Huawei struck fear into American heart, and covid-19 was unleased by CIA to warn countries including India, UK, Italy to reject China’s 5g.)
Anyway, nothing is as it seems. Back to persecution, there’s far more political repression in Tibet than in Uyghur land. You will know this from Chinese spy suspect Pema Dhargyal Ngawang who encouraged New York Tibetan hall to spread Buddhism and religion for world peace, but never talk politics. CCP’s treatment of Uyghurs and Tibetans will always be different – because Chinese hate…
