United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Monday that white supremacy and neo-Nazi movements are becoming a “transnational threat” and have exploited the coronavirus pandemic to boost their support.
Addressing the UN Human Rights Council, Guterres said the danger of hate-driven groups was growing daily.
“White supremacy and neo-Nazi movements are more than domestic terror threats. They are becoming a transnational threat,” he told the Geneva forum. Without naming states, Guterres added: “Today, these extremist movements represent the number one internal security threat in several countries.”
In the United States, racial tensions simmered during the turbulent four-year presidency of Donald Trump. His successor Joe Biden has said the 6 January siege of the US Capitol by Trump supporters was carried out by “thugs, insurrectionists, political extremists and white supremacists”.
“Far too often, these hate groups are cheered on by people in positions of responsibility in ways that were considered unimaginable not long ago,” Guterres said. “We need global coordinated action to defeat this grave and growing danger.”
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet is to report to the council on March 18 on systemic racism against people of African descent. The global inquiry was launched after George Floyd died in Minneapolis last May when a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
Guterres also accused authorities in some countries of using the COVID-19 pandemic to deploy “heavy-handed security responses and emergency measures to crush dissent”.
“At times, access to life-saving COVID-19 information has been concealed — while deadly misinformation has been amplified — including by those in power,” he said.
Guterres warned about the power of digital platforms and the use and abuse of data.
“I urge all Member States to place human rights at the centre of regulatory frameworks and legislation on the development and use of digital technologies,” he said. “We need a safe, equitable and open digital future that does not infringe on privacy or dignity.”
White supremacy is not a new phenomenon. The white race believed right from the beginning that they were superior to all other races. With this racist belief they went on to kill and destroy all the countries they conquered: the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
In all of these “new continents” the indigenous population was decimated by mass murder, poisoning or introducing diseases with which the locals had no immunity. South Africa practised apartheid where 4 million whites owned the whole country of 20 million blacks.
The US went on a killing spree of the American Indians personified by Robert Lee a general of the confederate army. In Canada and New Zealand, they gave smallpox laced blankets to kill the indigenous population. PM Helen Clark of New Zealand apologised to the Maori and Samoan people for past injustices in 2002.
Australia had “white Australia policy” until 1973 which forbade any Asians or blacks to live in Australia. A policy of removing Aboriginal children from their mother the moment they were born was practised in order to bring them up as “whites”. PM Kevin Rudd apologised to the Aborigines in 2008.
Closer to home the Chinese communist Party is a Han chauvinist holding the same evil ideology of superiority of the Han race over all so called minorities. Just as “whites” stole the land of the indigenous people and destroyed their culture and murdered them, the Chinese communists are doing exactly the same thing to Tibetans, Uyghurs, Mongols and Manchurians.
So, it’s not confined to the white race alone but practised methodically by the yellow race emanating from China. The CCP is vicious and cruel as the white colonisers of European descent. It racially vilified the Tibetans as ཆེས་མུན་ནག་ ཆེས་ཀླ་ཀློ་…
Tibetans themselves [go after] white supremacists like Donald Trump. There are many such as Dhundup Lhadhar, Loten Namling (swiss), etc, who see some bright side in this [man] called Donald Trump.
These people are sad. They are like hungry ghosts, feeding on the spit of other people. we are in safe hands now that Joe Biden is holding the reins.
HH Dalai Lama has very rightly ridiculed Donald Trump as “stupid, pathetic, sad and unredeemable.”
We Tibetans, who are followers of HH Dalai Lam and HH Karmapa and Sakya Trizin, should exploit every possible way to besmirch Republican Party who are socialists and try to usher a capitalistic govt in United States.
We Tibetans can easily fight the Chinese and kill or expel all of them from TAR. Lukar Jam has said that China is a third-world country with median income of $1,200 per annum. By that estimate, china is a very poor and pathetic and sad country.
I think Dalai lama should stop saying china has economic might. China is a very poor country and they have no food to eat. Talking of economics and future etc is a pipe dream, as people need food first. China is powerless. It’s time to seek total independence. WE have enough of poor people in western countries like US, canada, Uk, europe, where people sleep on the street without water, and annually 11,000 people die of hunger.
Many Tibetans in New York hide the fact that ethnic minorities like chinese, tibetans, indians, pakis, nepalese, are lowest paid workers utterly exploited by white masters. But they don’t realise it. how so sad!
