China’s top diplomat called on Tuesday for Beijing and Washington to put relations back on a predictable and constructive path, saying the United States should stop meddling in China’s internal affairs, like Hong Kong and Tibet.
Yang Jiechi, director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party, is the highest ranking Chinese leader to speak on China-US relations since President Joe Biden took office.
Under the Trump administration, US relations with China plunged to their lowest point since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1979, as both sides clashed over issues ranging from trade and technology to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Xinjiang, and the South China Sea.
While reassuring the United States that China has no intention to challenge or replace the US position in the world, Yang stressed that no force can hold back China’s development.
“The United States should stop interfering in Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang and other issues regarding China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Yang said, defining these as issues concerning China’s core interests and national dignity.
Speaking at an online forum organised by the National Committee on US-China Relations on Tuesday in Beijing, Yang said China never meddles with US internal affairs, including its elections.
Yang, whose position in the ruling Communist Party gives him more influence than even the foreign minister, also urged the Biden administration not to abuse the concept of national security in trade.
“We in China hope that the United States will rise above the outdated mentality of zero-sum, major-power rivalry and work with China to keep the relationship on the right track,” he said.
Yang reasserted that China is prepared to work with the United States to move the relationship forward along a track of “no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation.”
The word “cooperation” appeared 24 times in his speech. He suggested that US firms could gain from an estimated 22 trillion dollars worth of exports to China in the coming decade.
The most appalling mistake the Americans made was trusting the Chinese. China has never trusted the US and used deception and patience to supplant America as the world’s foremost power.
It didn’t want to confront the US from a position of weakness so it used a strategy to “kill with a borrowed sword”. They used the Americans by extracting military and economic assistance in the name of countering the Soviets.
America virtually built up the Chinese State by staggering transfer of economic, scientific and military know how. They were duped into thinking that China was “cooperating” with the US in its attempt to prevent expansion of Soviet power.
The US and its policy makers were gullible (like Nehru, Krishna Menon) in believing that US assistance would help transform China into a responsible stake holder by adopting democracy.
The Chinese communists never gave up the secret ambition of replacing America as a global power. They have never shown any appetite to be a friend of America and always called it “imperialist” America.
The US leaders have at long last learned the diabolical machinations of the CCP and shouldn’t stumble over the same stone twice. It must undermine and contain communist China at any cost if it wants to remain the pre-eminent power.
Communist China’s ideology is no different from that of the fanatical jihadist ISIS or the murderous Taliban brand of archaic barbarism. The world will plunge into endless tyranny if the CCP prevails in its attempt to overthrow US supremacy.
In order to suppress the CCP, the US must support democracy in China by supporting the Chinese people’s desire for freedom. It must support the Tibetans, Ugyurs, Hong Kongers and S Mongolians to assert themselves both financially and militarily.
During the last two years, the Trump Administration and all China have engaged with tit for tat actions against each other. Though in trying to give a matching reaction against US attack on China, it dared not overreact. In fact, at times Xi tried to play ball softly. For example, quick approval of business interests of Ivanka in China.
With Biden during last few days, Xi blowed hot and cold to test Biden Administration.
This time a soft ball? Is Yang Jiechi a wolf diplomate in sheep skin or is he a man of reasonable image and Xi’s trouble shooter?
He tried skill and experience with Mike Pompeo in Haiwai in the past. But his mission failed with Trump.
This he is trying again with Biden.
The substance of his talk is far short of what the Americans think a reasonable demand from the Chinese side.
Biden Administration should not let down American guard that Trump has put up.
Xi and his CCP has no intention to give up Chinese challenge to US power.
Tibet, Taiwan, Xinjiang are the real pressure points. If pressed hard and long enough, China will be hurt extremely bad and even mortally. Southern Mongolia is another hurting point. Hong Kong is unfortunately becoming a lost cause.
In matters economy, technology and business of seeking friends & allies American can pose serious challenge to the rise of China but will not able to stop China in long run.
So if America can liberate the countries or regions (mentioned above) from Chinese occupation, America can really cut CCP occupied China to its original size! America has no other choice to safeguard its super status. The time to act is now or never.
Mr Donald Trump, you must not pull down America now. If you do you are simply helping CCP and man like Vladimir Putin.
