NEW DELHI, India, 19 July 2020
US Ambassador to India, Ken Juster, on Saturday said he met Ngodup-la, Representative of Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama in Delhi and Secretary Gyalpo.
“Our close cooperation with the Office of HH the Dalai Lama continues to grow. Enjoyed my meeting with Ngodup-la, Representative of His Holiness in Delhi, and Secretary Gyalpo – partners in expanding ties between the American and Tibetan people,” Juster said in a tweet.
The People’s Republic of China (PRC) claims that Tibet is an integral part of China. The Tibetan Government-in-Exile maintains that Tibet is an independent state under unlawful occupation.
In 1950, the newly established Communist regime in China invaded Tibet, which was rich in natural resources and had a strategically important border with India.
Earlier this month on 7 July, US had wished Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama on his birthday while terming him a “symbol of the struggle for Tibetans and their heritage.”
“Happy 85th birthday to His Holiness Dalai Lama, who has inspired the world through his peace and kindness and as a symbol of the struggle for Tibetans and their heritage. We thank India for hosting His Holiness and Tibetans in freedom since 1959 and wish His Holiness happiness,” Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, US Dept of State had said in a tweet.
Juster, too, had wished Dalai Lama on his 85th birthday.
The spiritual leader has exiled himself in India ever since the rebellion against the Chinese rule started in 1959. The Dalai Lama is known for his messages of unity and compassion.
US Ambassador Justin deserves the respect for his position and the weight of his words.
Too many know how not to win friends and influence people: Take the ambassador at his word and promote Tibetan goals…. if our administration is free from umailam constructions that were self imposed.
It is very disturbing to see how many Tibetans seemed so supportive of Trump, saying he’s taking bold actions against China and the Islamists. None of his actions over China and the radical Islamists have brought any benefit to any party, or abated their ploys.
China is now a competitor, and to be able to contain it and claim US supremacy Trump is making hollow calls in attempts to impair China. US couldn’t stop China from imposing the draconian security law in Hong Kong, human rights situation in Tibet and East Turkistan hasn’t changed, US couldn’t pressure China to cut a trade deal in its favor.
Ambassador Justin meeting Rep Ngodup la is just a political rhetoric using the Tibet card as one of the many means to pressure China. Nothing good will come to Tibet. Rather than favoring, Trump has tried to cut funds to the Tibetans, tried to shut down the US funded Tibetan services in VOA and RFA. He hasn’t appointed the Special Coordinator for Tibet within State Department, and hasn’t once uttered Tibet in his entire presidency.
Apart from the White Supremacists in US, Trump has become the most hated and dangerous man in the world today. His own niece Mary Trump is testifying to that. All his policies and decisions are against what is a normal human approach, or are self serving. Who was it that said he lacked moral principle and is unpredictable. I second that, and would like to see him out come November.
CCP’S subjugation of Tibet was a piece of, since it was just a cakewalk. China not only wanted the Tibet cake, but ate it and have another.
India’s nightmare is the Northern Dragon but the dragon’s nightmare is DONALD TRUMP, who minces no words. He’s blunt. His unpredictable bold action speaks louder than words.
Trump is taking head on both the CCP and the extreme Islamists but his administration is the only one who is imposing sanctions on CCP in support of the Islamic Uyghurs, who are subjected to utter mistreatments. What bumfuzzles me is that not one Islamic brethren state is raising its voice in support of the Uyghurs.
In short, I second Lip-Tard’s assessment of Donald Trump who can trump and triumph. Trump did much to ameliorate the stock market hit through the ceiling — and brought down unemployment lowest in many decades — till the pandemic blindsided the whole world.
President Trump by far has been a huge disrupter, a huge wild card and the right man to shake up the entire world order. He may be the most inappropriate person but is somehow very appropriate for the situation right now. Maybe we can’t call him a good “politician” and nor is he wise but he is the only one making the RIGHT global calls. He has both the power and the will to go through with it. No American president has had the guts to do what you are doing — taking on both the CCP and the Islamists. Thank you President Trump and thank you America.
With Chinese aggression on India after the military occupation of Tibet, the US has belatedly woken up to a rather alarming development. It realised that China is out to gobble territories wherever it is able to expand its empire.
It is claiming land and seas at an alarming rate including the illegal occupation of the resource rich South China Sea. Just as America sent troops to halt the advance of communism in South East Asia during the Vietnam era, the US is starting to built a wall against the CCP and its imperial ambition.
Tibet, which was a wall to guard the Himalayas and India has fallen victim of to Chinese expansionism which now threatens India and the entire Himalayas.
Just as the US is openly supporting the littoral nations against China’s bullying and claiming their seas, the US must come out openly to support Tibet. We are the first victim of China’s expansionism.
The US President must meet the Dalai Lama or the elected Sikyong of Tibet. It must throw away diplomatic niceties and recognise the Tibetan Government in Exile as the legitimate Government of the Tibetan people just as it recognised Kosovo as an independent nation after the Balkan war. Without an independent Tibet the entire Himalayan nations and region are at the mercy of Chinese expansionism.
The Indian Government and its policy makers must also change their failed China policy and give recognition to the fact that the loss of Tibet has severely compromised India’s National security and acknowledge the importance of an independent Tibet as the only option to retain India’s national borders intact and secure its northern frontiers.
No more burying their heads in the sand any more, because the policy of appeasement has failed miserably. Wake up India!
