Case no 20, the defamation lawsuit filed by Penpa Tsering against Lobsang Sangay and his Cabinet, has its next hearing tomorrow in the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, according to a circular.
As reported by Tibet Sun earlier, the court refused to defer the hearing for three months as requested by the defendant lawyer Lobsang Dakpa in the first hearing last week on 5 June. The court has now issued the circular of the new hearing date.
Last week’s proceedings heard by the Chief Justice Kargyu Dhondup, and Justices Nawang Rabgyal and Karma Damdul, was the clarification hearing, while tomorrow’s will be the framing of issues.
Plaintiff Penpa Tsering appealed to the exile Tibetan’s highest court for justice against levelling “unacceptable charges” by the Lobsang Sangay-led Cabinet of the Central Tibetan Administration when dismissing him from the post of Representative of the Dalai Lama in the US in November 2017.
Sangay and his Cabinet charged Penpa Tsering with “trust deficit” and “dereliction of duty” in a 10-point explanation to justify his removal.
The case has dragged on for more than a year since being filed by Tsering in May 2018.
