The Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission has rejected a request from the lawyer defending Lobsang Sangay and his Cabinet to stay proceedings in a defamation case filed by former Washington DC Representative Penpa Tsering, who has claimed that he has been wrongly charged in his dismissal from that post.
Tibet Sun has reliably learned that the court has given the ruling in a notice to the defendant lawyer Lobsang Dakpa on Monday in the high-profile case, which has become known as Case no. 20.
In the first hearing a week ago, Dakpa appealed to delay the proceedings by three months so that he could prepare the answers to some of the questions put to him.
Opposing the appeal, Penpa Tsering argued that the lawsuit was filed in May last year, giving enough time for defense to prepare all the answers. He opined that the Sangay and his Cabinet were not taking the case seriously when Dakpa appealed for the deferment.
Upon a request for comment and confirmation that he got the notice from the court, Lobsang Dakpa refused to make any statement.
It is not known when the next hearing will take place. The court officials said there will be a public notice when the hearing is scheduled.
