Dhardon Sharling clarified that she was resigning to pursue her doctoral studies at a university in the United States. She is resigning from the post of Information Secretary of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in Dharamshala, India.

After Tibet Sun broke the news of her submitting a resignation letter, speculations were flying about the reasons that prompted her to quit.

In a clarification note on her blog, she wrote: “My resignation comes in light of few compelling circumstances that have made it imperative for me to resume my studies (PhD in Communication at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst). I will rejoin school this spring semester beginning January 22, 2019. Failing to do so might jeopardise my admission and funding from school, both of which have been on a continuous enrolment since September 2016.”

Cabinet of the Central Tibetan administration approved her resignation on 12 December, which will be effective 11 January. She submitted her
resignation letter on 7 December.

Dhardon feels that CTA President Lobsang Sangay, himself a former academic, would understand the importance of academic success, thus would support her decision to resume her doctoral studies.

She is a special appointee to the post, serving since October 2016, completing her two-year contract.

“As a Tibetan, I will continue to hold the cause of Tibet close to my heart and make every use of the opportunity in academia and in life to further our collective cause. I am confident that completing my studies will enable me to contribute to the cause in a much bigger, impactful manner,” Dhardon said.
