Doeguling Youth Sports Association (DYSA) Mundgod lifted the 24th Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup football tournament on Tuesday, beating Gangtok FC by two goals in the finals played at Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement in Karnataka state in South India.
Along with the Gold Cup, Mundgod team took away the one hundred and twenty thousand Rupees prize money, while the runner-up was given a cup and eighty thousand rupees.
The Mundgod team entered into the finals by defeating Cholsum FC Toronto by a solitary goal in the first semi-finals on Monday.
In the other semi, Gangtok FC beat former Champions Dhondupling FC by three goals to nil, although Gangtok FC captain Tenzin Tsephel was shown a red card by the referee for dissent and foul language.
Before the finals were played, Mundgod team complained that the Gangtok team had not attested the Green Book of the team members to qualify to play. The Green Book is the Tibetan tax payment receipt book, that identifies an exile Tibetan, showing allegiance to the Central Tibetan Administration.
Three from the team were found to be carrying fake Green Books and were disqualified from playing.
A total of 19 teams participated in the tournament, which was played for ten days in Bylakuppe.
