NEW DELHI, India, 6 March 2018
The Tibetan government-in-exile will not hold two main events in New Delhi. These events were scheduled to take place in the national capital to mark 60 years in exile of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. It has been learnt that Central Tibetan Administration has decided to shift the ‘Thank You India’ event, which was decided to be held at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex on April 1, to Dharamshala. Apart from this an inter-faith prayer, which was to be organised at the Gandhi Samadhi in Rajghat on March 31, has been cancelled, according to The Indian Express report.
This comes days after there was a report which stated that the central Indian government had allegedly asked senior leaders and officials not to attend any event that would mark 60 years in exile of the Dalai Lama. However, later the Ministry of External Affairs had categorically stated that there was no change in government’s position and stand on the Dalai Lama. The MEA said that India’s position on the Dalai Lama was clear and consistent. The Dalai Lama is a revered religious leader and is deeply respected by people of India and accorded all freedom to carry out his religious activities in the country, MEA said, as per ANI report.
It was learnt that Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale’s had sent a note to Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha who then sent a directive asking officials not to join the events. The Central government had said that it was a “very sensitive time” for the Sino-India relationship.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for the Central Tibetan Administration Sonam Dagpo said that they respected the central government’s decision and chose not to share too much information. However, he had said that India is host to Tibetan refugees, according to IE report. The Tibetan government-in-exile will continue to participate in Swachh Bharat, tree-plantation, Yoga Day and other events, Dagpo was quoted as saying by IE.
Last year, the Dalai Lama asserted that Tibet does not seek independence from China but wants greater development. Addressing an interactive session organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce, he said that both China and Tibet enjoyed a close relationship even as there were a few fights. He said that the past is past, and stressed the need to look to the future.
While India’ snubbing of the Dalai Lama and his exile administration is regrettable, we know it wasn’t the first time New Delhi has been kowtowing Beijing for decades. One has to realize, especially those who harbor anger against host India’s apparent inapt discourse, that what can India do when the whole Tibet issue, meaning restoration of it lost independence is/was given up many decades in the name of appeasing the Chinese of offering to return and live with and under the Chinese.
The current CTA, no longer exile government, has zero option as long as they don’t trash the Middle Way Approach which is helping neither the Chinese nor the Tibetans.
No wonder the the Dalai Lama has stopped travelling much, particularly the USA. Also the recent, and unresolved fiasco between Sikyong and Penpa Tsering has rocked the unity of the Tibetan people beyond redemption.
The Gaden Phorang is ripe with scandals of all kinds thanks to Lama Tenzin of California who might possibly drag other close associates of the Gaden Phodrang. If New York’s Thogme’s clarion call is true, the next to fall must be Kalden Lodoe of Radio Free Asia who has become the most hated and controversial ex-Namgyal monastery monk and there might be other names to come by in the near future. Didn’t some one ask/call His Holiness the Dalai Lama to “Wake Up.” Is any one getting such glaring/unavoidable signals to his hears or he is mum, as some insiders have hinted.
If he is not listening leave alone heeding to Samdhong and Ngari Rinpoches, what can the rest do! Alas, alas, alas……
Please focus on your baby sitting job and dont write too [much] from behind. If you are true tibetan then come on fb real profile and also do youtubing because that way people will know what you r talking and if it does make sense to listen to all your [non sense]. use all the time dalai lama name and now once you got the citizen then you are feeling The Gaden Phorang is rife with scandals of all kinds. Shame on yourself. Kacha
The Chinese people were told that some evil rich reactionaries kidnapped the Dalai Lama to India and that because China established a heaven on earth in occupied Tibet the Tibetan people will for ever love Chinese Communist Party, the infallible Mao and the loving embrace of the enlightened Chinese people finally freed from Western and Japanese control.
This event had never happened in Tibet’s millenia old history and it was accompanied by so much horror, tragedy and evil.
Will anyone shed a tear for the those ordinary Tibetans caught up in this the darkest and most tragic event in Tibetan people’s history?
The success of the tibetan diaspora is built on the bones of the poor, uneducated and unconnected Tibetans who suffered and died in such evil manner that had never happened to the Tibetan people.
