Education Minister of the Central Tibetan Administration Ngodup Tsering has been appointed as the new Representative of the Dalai Lama to North America in Washington DC, replacing the incumbent Penpa Tsering.
It is unclear where Penpa Tsering will now be posted. He assumed the post of Representative in August 2016.
Speculations are rife that he would be appointed to be a secretary at the private office of the Dalai Lama in McLeod Ganj.
Some had guessed that he would be made the Secretary of the Dalai Lama Trust in the US after the suspension of the previous Secretary Tenzin Dhonden following corruption charges against him.
But sources said this post has been temporarily filled by appointment of Tashi Namgyal as the Secretary. He was a former staff of CTA, as well as the former member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile representing North America.
Questions to the Kashag Secretary about a new Education Minister and where Penpa Tsering would be deputed didn’t reveal any information.
Speaking to Tibet Sun over the phone, Penpa Tsering said that he received the Kashag’s letter announcing Ngodup Tsering as the new Representative a day ago, and said that the Kashag has terminated his service from the end of this month.
“There were no other details in the Kashag’s letter.”
He said that there has not been any communication to him from anybody with regard to his appointment as a secretary to the Office the Dalai Lama.
“I feel it is important to clarify that I do not have any record of wrongdoing in my capacity as the Representative.”
Ngodup Tsering will take charge as the new Representative from 1 December.

Unfortunately (for Tibet and its future), Lobsang Sangay and the whole CTA establishment might just be a puppet of the Ganden Phodrang. Ultimately the strings are most likely pulled by Ganden Phodrang. Sad indeed!

After presidential win, Lobsang Sangay wants to appoint Ngodup Tsering as NA Representative but it didn’t go as planned after Penpa Tsering name was brought forward for this post by Private office of His Holiness or Gaden Phodrang.
With Lama Tenzin controversy, Kashag took this golden opportunity to pull the string and ousted Penpa Tsering from NA Representative post.
Now speculation has been going on that he is going to be offered Secretary post at Gadhen phodrang. Let’s wait how things turn out for Penpa Tsering.
Lobsang Sangay recently said division politics is bad. The Way things hots up he needs urgent checkup, it looks he is suffering from loss of memory if he meant what he said. Osama bin Ladin hid in underground but risked his life. What ever he strived for was right or wrong. Here our lousy lobsang Sangay is hiding safely in KASHAG risking unity of nation. Opinions are usually unwarranted but matter of national interest should not be thrown in suspense.
Someone with responsibility must cleanup the mess before it reek of very bad things about Tibetans in exile. And, of course, before H.H.The Dalai Lama have to do the cleaning. Why Tibetans in high positions (highly respected/trusted among Tibetans in exile to represent HH The Dalai Lama) in north America are in such a mess? Think carefully before we vote. My basic measure of a candidate is FIVE PRECEPTS OF BUDDHISM adhered to or not.
I am worried that a potential likely scenario may evolve into messy high drama court cases regarding holier than thou hypocrites fight, if Penpa Tsering La is allowed to stays on to represent HH The Dalai Lama in the USA to defend against the suspended emissary.
The ex-emissary may point out that he did not do anything illegal, allegations are very old story. Penpa Tsering La also went through old allegations that we all do not want to know, unless the court case will give him a golden opportunity to prove allegations are false. Both believe they are falsely accused of all allegations. At least, one if not both are ready for the court fight, even if to face reprimand from HH The Dalai Lama!
In my opinion, one or both should back down for greater good of us all to avoid the court case; where two prominent Tibetans dirty linens are laundered in public square through a court case.
TRUTH ALONE TRIUMPHS!
This is too much, its over 7 years and [Sikyong] Lobsang Singye, Sangay and Sanggey whatever he chose to call himself hadn’t finished his Politics of Vendetta. From day one, he is more into taking revenges on people who exercised their democratic rights to choose their candidates for Sikyong. He has misused his power to do everything to hurt them and give them lessons instead of working for Tibet sincerely. Time is running out for Tibet but he is more into […] and wasting hard-earned CTA cash for playing VIP. He says, To hell with Tibetan cause and Tibetan unity….god save Tibet from this egoistic [Sikyong]. PLEASE STOP for God’s Sake.

Lobsang Sangay has gone nuts and the pompous manner in which he is evading the Tibetan media is mind boggling. He is acting crazier than Trump and Kim Jong Un. This action of replacing Penpa Tsering in a politically motivated revenge strategy will not go down well in Sangay’s political legacy. This act is a major blot on the Tibetan unity and a mockery of Tibetan democracy and misuse of Presidential authority in the meanest way possible. Penpa Tsering is not all white yet this decision is a major misstep by Sangay akin to digging his own political grave.
Monk Tenzin Dhondhen’s issue is behind this abrupt dismissal of Penpa Tsering. Penpa condemned Dhonden in 2015.
A dark secret is that the bond between Dhonden and the Dalai Lama is very strong, and the former is privy to deeply personal secrets of his Holiness. The monk knows about the Dalai Lama’s date with a woman in 1973 in England. The Dalai Lama had a date not out of lust but out of curiosity about woman. Kusho Dhonden has been blackmailing the Dlai Lama, threatening to expose the secrets if his excesses are not tolerated.
In short, the Dalai Lama is afraid of Kusho Tenzin Dhonden. There I said it! Afraid!
So now the Dalai Lama has to slap the wrist of Penpa Tsering for daring to speak out about Dhonden’s corruption. President Sangay firing Pentse in this dramatic manner is just a drama to appease the wrathful Kusho Dhondhen. Trust me, this is true. Real politics have very little to do with formal statements and posturings, and happen behind the scenes. But 99.99% of the people are delusional.
It’s a shocker and a disgrace for cta this kind of policy of communication. Patriotic skilled compatriots like penpa tsering mustn’t be wasted but deserve an adequate job within domestic politics a/o administration. I wonder what hhdl thinks of this abrupt change.
Many ranking Tibetan officials are in news for bad reason and this is undoubtedly disgrace to our struggling people. Those in high position not only abuse their power for selfish end but they also shame the entire community by indulging in immoral activities.
We demand greater transparency in appointing officials in all positions and especially those handling sensitive matters should be made more accountable to prevent any such incidents from recurring again in public life. The guilty should be punished and an honest and hardworking person needs to be rewarded.
I am disheartened to read about lama with close connection to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, manipulating their official position for personal gains and this is totally unacceptable. The security of His Holiness the Dalai lama should be made fool proof as there is real threat from enemies of Tibetan nation. The concerned office should immediately request Indian govt. for adequate and tighter security arrangements around the palace and other venues where His Holiness often visits.
The people with clean records should be in all key positions but not the sly person.
Why can’t there be transparency? Why so much secrecy? Please don’t set bad examples. We now have enough of it. Don’t remind simple public about the grave situation of Tibet. Remember yourself our dear leaders.
As a Tibetan residing in USA, we deserve an explanation why the representative was fired? Unless we hear a good explanation, I for one will [not] honor Ngodup Tsering as representative.
Penpa tsering is the first and probably the only high profile person to expose ex Dalai Lama Trust secretary tenzin dhonden. This proved his credential as a loyal follower of the Dalai Lama who has the bravery to shot the arrow at charlatans who abuse their power. He criticised lama tenzin dhonden in the parliament.
Timid hearts like lobsang sangay stood silent for for fear of retaliation, because there’s a chance that Dalai Lama may take dhonden’s side due to the emotional bond developed over long years. But penpa tsering took that risk for the greater good – for, now disgraced monk because posed a big risk of harming Dalai Lama’s reputation.
Lama tenzin, as he was rather endearing called, has such a vast CV of dodgy deeds. Those deeds include extorting money from a kindly philanthropist called Daniel kranzler, miffed rumours of pocketing of funds from Dalai Lama trust scholarship fund, alleged sexual relationship with a wayward American
Woman, demanding a bribe of “a house” in return for giving access to Dalai Lama, egoistic clash with NA Representative over arranging Dalai Lama visit, embezzling of fund from his charity “seeds of compassion”.
Dhonden’s warm sunny days of crazy corruption with impunity has been brought to an end. And we have to thank our whisky-loving, alcoholic and very courageous penpa tsering.
