A Tibetan student Tenzin Choeying (19) attempted to commit suicide by setting himself on fire on the campus of Central University of Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, on Friday. He was admitted to a private hospital in Lanka area.
The incident occurred when the chief of Central Tibetan administration (Sikyong) Lobsang Sangay was addressing the students and faculty members on the campus.
According to reports, raising slogan of Tibetan freedom Tenzin, a third year student of Sanskrit, torched himself after pouring kerosene oil [on himself] at the hostel. Engulfed in flames he ran towards the hall. A panic prevailed on the campus. Some students extinguished the fire by putting a blanket on him, and rushed him to the hospital. His condition was stated to be stable.
The police reached there after getting information. According to CO Prashant Kumar, it came to light that Tenzin was in stress due to Chinese aggression. He was raising slogan of Tibet’s freedom. The police informed his family members living in Karnataka.
