Four to vie for the Miss Tibet 2016 crown

MCLEOD GANJ, India, 31 May 2016

Four young Tibetan women are vying for the Miss Tibet Pageant 2016 crown. It’s the 14th edition of the Pageant since it was first started in 2002.

The four contestants are Dechen Wangmo from Mussoorie, Tenzin Dawa from New York, Tenzing Dickey from Bylakuppe, and Tenzing Sangnyi from Manali.

“All the contestants are bright, beautiful, and enthusiastic, and have strong connection with the Tibetan community and the free Tibet movement. They are excitedly looking forward to their time in McLeod Ganj and competing in the Pageant,” the organisers said in a statement.

The contestants will be given training in the next few days, as well as taken on excursions around the area.

Swimsuit will be the first competition round on the afternoon of 3 June at Bhagsu Waterfalls.

The Talk and Talent Rounds will be held on the evening of the 4th in TIPA auditorium. The Grand Finale Night with the remaining four rounds — Introduction, Gown, Traditional Costume, and Interview Rounds — will be held on the 5th evening on the TIPA grounds.

The prize of one lakh (100,000) rupees for this year’s winner has been sponsored by Tibetan businessman Jangchup Nyendak. The First Runner-up will receive 50,000 and Second Runner-up will receive 25,000 rupees.
