Sikyong (Prime Minister of the Central Tibetan Administration) Lobsang Sangay said that Dicki Chhoyang resigned as the kalon (minister) of the Department of Information and Relations so that she could participate in the ongoing Tibetan general election debates.
Dicki Chhoyang has said that she resigned “bearing in mind our collective interest and the significant challenges that lie ahead.” There is no mention of any election activities in her statement, causing much apprehension within the Tibetan society weeks before the final round of voting of Sikyong 2016 on 20 March.
She has further said that she will be explaining more details later when the time is right.
She was among the ministers of Sikyong Sangay’s Administration that became the first democratically-elected Tibetan cabinet after the Dalai Lama gave up his political powers in 2011. She was to end her five-year office term in a few months.
Sangay has taken charge of the department after her resignation.
