The team members of Tibet Sun — www.TibetSun.com — are happy and proud that the site was launched on 8.8.08, coinciding with the opening of the Beijing Olympics. The site is aimed at safeguarding the national interest of Tibet and the Tibetan people. It will also address other pressing global issues and current affairs. It will impart news and views frankly and fearlessly.
Every effort will be made that the works conform to the accepted norms, rules, and ethics of journalism, and the reportage be objective and based on truth.
As Tibet Sun aims to publish a diverse perspective, it will also publish the official Chinese news and views disseminated through Xinhua and CCTV and its subsidiary networks, to bring more understanding and awareness about the Chinese government policies and propaganda.
The archive section will be an interesting part of the site. This section is small at the moment, but it will be continuously filled with more stories as we get access to old sources and as fast as we can digitise the materials. The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives have been very cooperative in providing many news clippings for this section.
The “News You Witness” is especially made to encourage citizen journalism and the journalism students. We look forward to, and appreciate, contributions and cooperation from citizen journalists, reporting on news and events happening in different areas.
Therefore, the site will not only help bring more awareness to both Tibetans and non-Tibetans about Tibetan news and issues, it will also help make the Tibetan presence on the web more prominent. We will also strive to bring Tibetan journalism to new heights.
Tibet Sun is not competing with any one. The idea of the site was conceived many years back, to use the expertise and experience of the team members in their respective fields. However, due to lack of proper and adequate resources and support, it remained unmaterialised until now. Although the site has started to operate, we still need financial support to make it fully effective and viable, and the site to grow.
Advertisements will be our main source of revenue. We encourage people to advertise with us so that we can become self-sustaining and bring the best of services.
The site will be updated a few times a day. We will be “Breaking News” all the time.
