Over 3000 exile Tibetans marched to protest the Chinese rule in Tibet, in Bylakuppe, India, on 3 November 2011. Lobsang Yeshi Over 3000 Tibetans in Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement staged a protest march in Bylakuppe today. The protest march, organised jointly by the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, Bylakuppe, was to join the “Global Day of Action” spearheaded by the International Tibet Network. The march started from the martyrs’ monument “Pawo Memorial Jangchup Chorten” at first camp, to the Bylakuppe Police Station. The march began with a brief function including a prayer service, singing of Tibetan national anthem, and a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for the Tibetan martyrs. Mr Tenzin Lodoe, Vice President of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress gave an introductory speech. Later slogans were raised and the march began. Despite heavy rainfall for the most part of the march, the thousands of marchers; young and old, monks and laypeople, women and children, braved the rain and went on unperturbed. The entire settlement resonated with the powerful emotional and political slogans raised continuously. Before the conclusion, member of the Tibetan Parliament Jigme Jungney addressed the gathering, followed by a brief prayer service for the Tibetan Martyrs. With this, the two-day long “Global Solidarity Campaign” organised by the local chapters of TYC and TWA was concluded. On Wednesday, a joint campaign of phone, fax and email jam campaign was held. Thousands of fax, phone calls, and emails raising the concerns of Tibetans were constantly sent to the offices of the United Nations, the embassies of China, US, UK, EU, and the Indian Prime Minister’s Office. Sister chapters from other Tibetan settlements in Hunsur, Mundgod, and Kollegal, and Tibetan college associations in Mysore, Bangalore, and Chennai, similarly carried out the jamming campaign.
