Nepal police torture a Tibetan nun in detentionBy Jampa Tsering 15 August 2008 (Tibet Sun)![]() Sonam Deki, who was tortured by Nepal police, being looked after by Tibetan volunteers in Kathmandu on 15 August.Tibet Sun/Jampa Tsering/Nepal Tibetans have been protesting against the violent crackdown in Tibet that started five months ago, and against the ongoing suppression of the Tibetans in their own homeland by China. Deki was among four Tibetans detained at the police station. Others arrested were later released in the evening except the four detained at Boudha police station. She was handcuffed and beaten by three or four policemen. Sonam Deki told reporters later that she was beaten like a non-living object with the policemen forcefully striking their bamboo stick in her mouth and hitting her with rifle butts at her leg. She was also punched and kicked all over her body, causing bleeding profusely in the night which made the police to take her twice to hospital fearing she might die in detention which could raise a serious problem for them. She was later forced to consume pain killers by the police. She was released around 1 p.m. on Friday, 15 August. Tibetan volunteers rushed her to a hospital, and her condition is said to be serious at the moment. Published in Tibet Sun
