Conference of overseas Chinese associations concludes in Beijing

The 5th Conference of Friendship of Overseas Chinese Associations, aiming to promote overseas Chinese’ knowledge of Xinjiang and Tibet, concluded here Saturday.

Participants to the two-day conference heard lectures on China’s ethnic and religious situations and presentations made by officials from the Tibet Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on the two regions’ development.

The meeting, jointly held by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and the China Overseas Exchanges Association, attracted more than 600 representatives of overseas Chinese societies from 120 countries and regions.

Li Haifeng, head of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, said in the future principals of overseas Chinese societies, politicians and young overseas Chinese would be invited to visit Xinjiang and Tibet.

Experts on ethnic and religious issues would also visit overseas societies and deliver speeches to help overseas Chinese know more about the two autonomous regions, Li said.

According to the office, some delegates to the conference will go to Shanghai to visit the World Expo, and some others will visit Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Liaoning, Chongqing and Yunnan.
