The Dalai Lama inaugurated a new Tibetan radio station in Dharamshala before he began a teaching session for the students of the Tibetan Children’s Village School.

The station Tashi Delek 90.4 FM was started with the broadcast of the Dalai Lama’s teachings. The radio aims to serve the local community — educating them about health and social issues and providing entertainment.

It is run by a station manager, and programmes are made by students and volunteers.

The station is said to be the first licensed Community Radio Station (CRS) in the Indian Himalayan region.

Other major radio services in the exile Tibetan community include Radio Voice of Tibet, Radio Free Asia Tibetan section, and Voice of America.
