Four young Tibetan women have applied to compete in the ninth edition of the Miss Tibet Pageant 2010.

The four young women are — Rinchen Choden, Tenzin Namchoe, Tenzin Norzom and Yangchen Metok.

Rinchen Choden, 25 years of age, is a hair stylist based in Bangalore. Tenzin Namchoe, 22 years of age, is a second-year student at St Joseph College Bangalore, pursuing a Bachelors of Social Work. Tenzin Norsom, 23, has just completed her Shastri (equivalent to Bachelor of Arts degree) from Central University of Tibetan Studies in Varanasi. Yangchen Metok 19, the youngest of the four contestants, is studying English in Mcleod Ganj. She came from Tibet to India in 2008.

This year’s pageant has been dedicated to the victims of the April earthquake in Kyigudo in eastern Tibet. Tibetan sources say that more than 10,000 people have died from the earthquake. We need to pray for those who have died and who are still suffering, and bring awareness about their plight to the world.

The ninth edition of the Miss Tibet Pageant is officially titled Kingfisher Miss Tibet Pageant 2010, and sponsored by Kingfisher. The pageant will be produced by Lobsang Wangyal Productions in association with Can & Able group, an entertainment company based in Chandigarh.

In the next few days, the contestants will be trained in yoga, cat walk and dance. They will meet with Tibetan experts who will speak to them about Tibetan culture, media, Buddhism, and other subjects.

The first round of the pageant, the swimsuit round, will be held on the 4th of June. The Talk and Talent rounds will be held on the 5th at TIPA, and the Finale will be held on the evening of the 6th June at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts.

The winner will be presented with 100,000 India rupees (2,200 USD approx). The first runner-up will receive 50,000 rupees, and the second runner-up will receive 25,000 rupees.

According to the organisers, there will be no fire crackers, instead there will be prayers for the victims of the Kyigudo quake victims.
