The Dalai Lama met about 500 ethnic Chinese followers in Bodh Gaya as his teachings in the holy place entered their second day. He expressed the hope that he could visit Mount Wu-tai Shan in China for a pilgrimage in the near future.

“Maybe some of you could be there (Wutai Shan) when I make the pilgrimage,” the Dalai Lama said.

He said he would like to hear chants in Tibetan, Chinese and Sanskrit at the holy site, located in Shanxi, a province in northern China.

The Tibetan leader asked the Chinese, who had come from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and the US, to practice Buddhism in the right way.

“Chanting miyo, miyo, (nothing, nothing) will not make a person a good Buddhist,” he said.

“It’s through studying and training the mind, that a good practioner advances.”

He then asked the devotees to be truthful and compassionate.

“The sufferings in the world are stemming from a lack of truth and compassion among the people. The poor are suffering more. Those who are with the rank and file may be wealthier, but may not necessarily be at peace.”

The Dalai Lama said that Buddhism is only ancestry belief for a majority of Chinese. They should work towards keeping the faith, which he says is regarded highly by scientists. “Physicist Albert Einstein once said that Science and Buddhism go hand in hand.”
