Memorial pillar for Tibetan martyrs

A stone pillar in memory of all those Tibetans who have sacrificed their lives for Tibet will be build in Dharamshala, reports tibet.net, the website of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Dharamshala was chosen as the location for the pillar when the Tibetan parliament-in-exile took the decision to build the memorial pillar in March this year.

A parliamentary committee has been formed to supervise the project.

The committee announced that Tibetans can submit designs of the pillar. The best design selected will be given a cash prize of 5,000 Indian rupees, and the designer will be credited by inscribing her or his name on the pillar.

The pillar will be of 4×4 x 12 feet (length x breadth x height).

The last date to submit the design is 5 September 2009.
