Fifty-membered Rigdzin Buddhist community of Lausanne invited the Dalai Lama to speak at two days of conferences on 4 and 5 August in Lausanne. The 12,000 tickets to the two-day event has been sold out, according to Swiss media reports. Topics for the conference include “Happiness”, “Buddhist medicine” and “Dying in peace.” None of the seven Federal Cabinet Ministers will meet with the Dalai Lama as he makes his 22nd visit to Switzerland. The Tibetan leader said that his visit is religious one and not meeting politicians is not a problem for him. Federal officials have said that they have not received pressure from China for not meeting with the Dalai Lama, but say that they merely have scheduling conflicts. Swiss media, however is expected to cover the visit. The media will not be allowed to ask any questions at the Thursday morning photo session when the leader of the Swiss Parliament will meet the the Dalai Lama. In an interview with a Zurich newspaper, he said that his visit to Switzerland is religious, not political. He said if he had a specific topic to discuss with the government, that would be a different story. The Dalai Lama concluded a 5-day visit to Frankfurt, Germany. Addressing the members of the German Tibet support groups in Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon, the Dalai Lama expressed his gratitude for their support for the Tibetan cause. The members of the German Tibetan Community and some 50 volunteers of the various Tibet support groups based in Germany attended the exclusive talk.
