Countering the Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi’s charges of seeking a “greater Tibet” and trying to drive away the Chinese armed forces deployed in Tibet, the Dalai Lama said that he is willing to become a Chinese citizen and that he is not seeking to separate Tibet from China.

The Dalai Lama read Yang’s charges from a report published on BBC website during a press conference on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule in Tibet.

Yang on 7 March had said that other countries should not allow Dalai Lama to visit and use their territory to let him engage in ‘secessionist activities’.

The Dalai Lama pointed out a third accusation by Chinese authorities against him, which was not mentioned by Yang.

“China accuse me of internationalising the Tibetan issue,” but the Dalai Lama says it was Chinese opposition to his trips abroad that bring more attention to Tibet.

“The Chinese authorities are helping to internationalise the issue of Tibet by opposing my visits abroad.”

The Dalai Lama said whether he is pursuing to separate Tibet from China or not would be clear to Chinese authorities if they come to Dharamshala to check all the files and records.

“Chinese foreign minister must provide evidence regarding my statement about driving away the Chinese armed forces and other non-Tibetan people from Tibet.”

There is only one truth, he says and that the things are all transparent on his part.

He called upon all the journalists present at the press conference to help bring his message to Yang regarding evidence for the charges.
