The Dalai Lama has offered prayers for the victims of Australia’s biggest bushfire and sent a condolence message to Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd expressing his solidarity with the grieving Australian families from the tragedy, reports Northern Voices Online.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of so many lives and the devastation of houses, towns and sources of livelihood for many others following the shocking bush fires that have swept some parts of the state of Victoria over the last few days,” the Dalai Lama said in his message.

“I extend my deep sympathy and heartfelt condolences to all those families who have been directly affected by what I understand are the worst bush fires in Australian history.”

“I offer my prayers for those who have lost their lives, the bereaved and those who have been injured.”

The fires that continue to burn has taken lives of at least 200 people according to media reports. The death toll continues to rise as authorities search through debris. The fires have destroyed more than 1,800 homes and displaced about 7,000 people. The fires scorched southeastern Australian state of Victoria.

The Dalai Lama is currently visiting the Tibetan settlements in south India. He arrived at the Kollegal settlement this morning. He is also scheduled to visit Hunsur and Bylakuppe settlements.
