Dhondup Dorjee, the Vice President of TYC, attended the meeting and said in an email update that the international youth organisation resolved to dedicate 2009 as the “Year of Tibet,” as the Tibetan freedom struggle enters its 50th year. The international organisation will make year-long campaign for Tibet. Over 110 youth delegates from more than 50 different countries, including Tibet, attended the meeting. The agenda was “Our Movement, Our Struggle, Our Future — building a new world in the wake of the financial crisis”. Dorjee briefed the delegates about the Tibetan situation and successfully encouraged them to pass a resolution on Tibet, recognising Tibet as an independent country and condemning the illegal occupation by China. IUSY also called for immediate end to the large influx of Chinese settlers into Tibet, and the immediate and unconditional release of all the political prisoners including the 11th Panchen Lama, Gendun Choekyi Nyima, and Tulku Tenzin Delek. They have also called upon the United Nations to resume the debate based on its resolution passed on Tibet in 1959, 1961 and 1965. Copyright © 2009 Tibet Sun Published in Tibet Sun
