Australian Greens leader Bob Brown is calling on the Federal Government to increase its efforts to stop the mistreatment of Tibetans in China.

Senator Brown says Prime Minister Kevin Rudd should use his meeting this weekend with senior Chinese official Mr Zhou Yongkang to discuss the issue.

He says Australia should also be working with United States President-elect Barack Obama to give Tibetans autonomy in China.

“There needs to be a vigorous new political attempt from Canberra and Washington to get a real dialogue between Beijing and the Tibetans in exile, to free the Tibetan people from this horrific military clampdown,” he said.
