The new Miss Tibet 2008 will be crowned a few hours from now. Two contestants will compete in four different rounds — Evening Gown, Talent, Traditional Costume, and Interview.

The organisers say the identity of the two contestants will be disclosed only when they come onto the stage. The finale programmes will be held at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, Mcleod Ganj, India, at 7 p.m today.

Two judges will decide who will get the crown. The judges are: Judge Rashmi Ramoul, a lecturer at the Government College for Teachers’ Education, and Natasha Mendes from Brasil, a belly dance teacher.

Artistes performing in the pageant include Jamyang Tash and Jigme Nyima, doing Amdo songs. Dorjee Tsering will perform two pop songs. Naoko Reelha, a Japanese woman, will present two Tibetan songs including a Nangma song.

Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, a member of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile, will give a talk addressing youth issues.

Miss Tibet 2007 Tenzin Dolma will make a special appearance.

The new Miss Tibet will be presented 100,000 rupees, and the runner-up with 50,000 rupees. All our sponsorship drives have failed. However, Gyalnor Tsewang, who is a member of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile and a businessman from Nepal, donated 50,000 rupees.
