Two young Tibetan women will compete in the Miss Tibet Pageant 2008, according to a press release issued on the site of the pageant.

The organisers have called the two contestants “brave and modern Tibetan women”, who will be known to the public on the finale day on 12 October when they will come onto stage to compete in four rounds including evening gown, talent, traditional costume and interview.

Each round will have ten points for judges to decide the final.

The winner will be presented with a cheque for 100,000 rupees (2500 USD approx) and the second place will receive 50,000 rupees (1250 USD approx).

“The prize money is offered to help the winners further their education or vocational skills.”

The two contenders will be given training in yoga, dance and stage craft, and orientation on Tibetan culture for a week leading up to the pageant.

The prize money is offered to help the winners further their education or vocational skills.

Gyalnor Tsewang, who is a member of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile as well as businessman from Nepal, contributed 50,000 rupees for the pageant. Asia Health Resorts is another sponsor.

Miss Tibet Pageant was started in 2002. On two occasions, in 2003 and 2005, there were only one contestant who became walkover Miss Tibet. The maximum number of contestants that took part was six in 2006.
