The Dalai Lama has cancelled tours to Germany and Switzerland in October.Tibet Sun/Lobsang Wangyal/India “We are cancelling his tour in order to allow him more rest so that he doesn’t feel weak immediately again,” says Tenzin Taklha, the secretary to the Dalai Lama. The 73-year-old Dalai Lama, who has been pursing a hectic travelling schedule campaigning for greater freedom in Tibet, returned to Dharamshala on Tuesday after undergoing medical tests and treatment following some discomfort recently. Although his general health condition is good, his physicians have advised him to curtail his travelling itinerary. “His Holiness very much regrets the inconvenience this will cause to the organisers of his programmes as well as to those who were looking forward to participating in them. We hope everyone will understand the situation,” the statement said. The Dalai Lama’s two-week visit to the European countries was to give teachings on Buddhism and talks on ethics. “His Holiness’ teachings in Dharamshala are on as scheduled,” says Taklha. He is scheduled to teach from the 25th of this month for three days and again from the 30th to 4th of October. These teachings were requested by two Buddhist groups, from Singapore and Taiwan respectively. The Dalai Lama was hospitalised for four days in Lilavati hospital in Mumbai at the end of August after he complained of abdominal discomfort. The doctors from the hospital reported that he has no major health issues to feel concerned about. Earlier Taklha said that the Dalai Lama is feeling well, but his physicians have advised him to take good rest before resuming his engagements. Copyright © 2008 Tibet Sun
