The Dalai Lama has called for an emergency meeting of the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile and the Kashag (executive body) to discuss the fundamental issues of Tibet in view of the tense on-going situation there.

The meeting will be held in November and December this year, according to a statement published by the Tibetan government-in-exile on their web site.

In a letter sent by the Dalai Lama to the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, he wrote that the emergency meeting would be held under Article 59 of the Charter of the Tibetans-in-exile.

The Dalai Lama has said that the meeting was convened considering the recent crisis inside Tibet and the situation in the world in general.

Speaker Karma Chophel read the letter in the Parliament, and said that since the Parliament is in session, a draft proposal will be formulated and tabled in the House for discussion on Monday, 15 September.

The composition of the representatives for the meeting shall include the members of the exile Tibetan Parliament and others appointed on its behalf, which the Kashag shall jointly decide, in consultation with the Tibetan Parliament or the Standing Committee of the Parliament.

Article 59 (1) of the Charter of the Tibetans-in-exile gives the Dalai Lama the authority to call an emergency general meeting if in his opinion it is necessary.
