Time to see tangible results from talks: British MPsBy Lobsang Wangyal | Tibet Sun DHARAMSHALA, India, 10 September 2008![]() From left to right: Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile Dolma Gyari, British MPs Norman Baker (Liberal Democrat), Tim Loughton (Conservative) and Julie Morgan (Labour) during a press conference in Dharamshala. Tibet Sun/Lobsang Wangyal/India “It has been a long time now with talks between the envoys of the Dalai Lama and the Chinese leaders, and it’s time to see some tangible results,” says Julie Morgan from Britain’s ruling Labour party. Norman Baker from the Liberal Democrat and Tim Loughton from the Conservative voiced similar concern and support for the Tibetan cause. “The crackdowns and the atrocities in Tibet are unacceptable,” says Loughton. The three MPs said that although they represent three different parties, they are united in support for the Tibetan cause. They have come here to assess and gather the latest information on the Tibetan issue. During their three-day visit, they attended a session of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile, and met NGO leaders and other individuals. “We will meet the foreign minister David Miliband to urge him to push the dialogue between the Tibetans and the Chinese,” says Baker. Seven rounds of talks between the two envoys of the Dalai Lama and the Chinese leaders, started in September 2002, ended without any outcome. The eighth round of talks is scheduled for October.
