The Dalai Lama returned home to Mcleod Ganj fully relaxed after a short hospitalisation in Mumbai following abdominal pain.

“His Holiness is fully relaxed, but will continue to rest until he teaches on the 25th of September,” his secretary Tenzin Taklha says.

The Dalai Lama was discharged from Lilavati hospital on 1 September, four days after he was admitted on 28 August.

He has cancelled all his engagements, including a trip to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, for at least three weeks in order to rest.

Prior to the hospitalisation, the Dalai Lama was pursuing a hectic itinerary campaigning for an improved situation in Tibet while China was hosting the Olympic Games.

While still in hospital, the 73-year-old Dalai Lama joined in a symbolic 12-hour fast for peace in Tibet on 30 August from his hospital bed.

The Dalai Lama will commence a series of teachings in Dharamshala starting 25 September. The three-day teachings were requested by a Singapore Buddhist group. He will teach on Je Tsongkhapa’s Song of the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Lamrim Dhuedon).

He is also scheduled to teach from 30 September to 4 October on Arya Nagarjuna’s Commentary on Bodhicitta (Jangchup Semdrel) and Kamalashila’s The Middling Stages of Meditation (Gomrim Barpa), which was requested by Chinese Buddhists mainly from Taiwan. He will be travelling to Switzerland and Germany in October.
