After the doctors attending the Dalai Lama in a hospital in Mumbai declared there is no concern over his health, he is now scheduled to carry out a 12-hour fast and prayer session in Mumbai, according to a press statement from his office.

The Dalai Lama underwent some medical tests at the Lilavati hospital in Mumbai on Friday. The doctors attending on him have given assurances that there is “absolutely no cause for concern”, the statement said.

“All that he needs is a good rest.”

“His Holiness will observe a 12-hour fast and offer prayers from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at his hospital,” Secretary Tenzin Taklha said.

Earlier he was scheduled to lead the programme in Dharamshala, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

The Dalai Lama arrived in Mumbai yesterday (Thursday) afternoon for check up after he complained of exhaustion and was hospitalised due to feeling some discomfort in his abdomen.

The 12-hour fast and prayers for peace and freedom will be held on Saturday, 30 August, globally, to highlight the Tibetan cause and for world peace. The programme is organised by the Tibetan Solidarity Committee of the exile government. Tibetans and their supporters around the world will take part in the event at their respective places.

The Dalai Lama has cancelled all engagements for three weeks, including trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, to allow time for recovery of his fatigue.
