Dalai Lama leaves for Bombay for further medical check-upBy Lobsang Wangyal | Tibet Sun DHARAMSHALA, India, 28 August 2008![]() The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, waves from inside a car as he arrives at the Lilavati hospital in Mumbai, India, Thursday, 28 August 2008. The Dalai Lama was suffering from exhaustion and has canceled two planned international trips to undergo medical tests, his office said Wednesday.AP/Rajanish Kakade/India “His Holiness will undergo a medical examination at Lilavati Hospital in Bombay today (Thursday),” said Tenzin Taklha, a Secretary to the Dalai Lama. “There are no serious health issues, but since His Holiness has been experiencing some discomfort in the past few days, his personal physicians recomended him for a medical check-up.” The last time he took a medical test at the Lilavati Hospital was on 9 August before leaving for a visit to France. He has cancelled all engagements for three weeks, including two international tours to Mexico and Dominican Republic, to rest and to complete the remaining medical tests that began earlier this month in Lilavati Hospital. The Dalai Lama returned from a high-profile 12-day visit to France on Sunday. He met with the French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and the Human Rights minister Rama Yade. The Dalai Lama criticised Chinese repression in Tibet when he met Kouchner. The planned global fast and prayer session to highlight the Tibetan issue and world peace on 30 August will now go on without the Dalai Lama leading the programme in Dharamshala. The Dalai Lama constantly travels around the world promoting his causes of human values, religious harmony and a Free Tibet. Copyright © 2008 Tibet Sun Published in Tibet Sun
