The Dalai Lama has cancelled all engagements for three weeks, including two international trips, due to exhaustion, a statement from his office said.

“His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been experiencing some discomfort in the past couple of days. His personal physicians attributed this to exhaustion and have advised him to cancel his engagements for the time being and instead complete the remaining medical tests that began earlier this month in Mumbai,” the statement said.

“His Holiness is scheduled to leave for Mumbai for medical check up tomorrow (Thursday),” said Chimme R. Chhoekyapa, the Dalai Lama’s Secretary.

The Dalai Lama, 73, has cancelled two scheduled international trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

He travelled to Mumbai (Bombay) earlier this month for a medical checkup ahead of a 12-day tour of France.

His plan to attend the synchronized 12-hour global fast and prayer session for Tibet and world peace on Saturday, 30 August, has been cancelled. The event will be held from morning 7 a.m. local time at Tibetan-clustered areas and many others around the world.

His scheduled teachings the last week of September from 25 to 27, and 30 to 4 October, will take place as announced earlier.
