Tibetans and their supporters converged at the Tsuglakhang temple in Mcleod Ganj to protest the ongoing repressive Chinese policies in Tibet amid fear that Chinese might intensify crackdown in Tibet as the Olympics comes to an end.

The protest was organised to coincide with the closing day of the Beijing Olympics.

“We urge the international community, and especially the media, not to divert their attention from China after the Beijing Olympics, as the Chinese authorities are likely to intensify their hostility towards Tibetans after the Olympics,” said Tenzin Choeying, Director of Students for a Fee Tibet, India.

Three former political prisoners: Ama Adhe, who had spent 27 years in Chinese prisons in Tibet, and two other former political prisoners of the famed “Singing nuns” — Rinzin Choekyi and Lhundup Sangmo, spoke about the Chinese atrocities in Tibet and the torture meted out to Tibetan political prisoners in Tibet. They urged the international community to support the Tibetan cause for freedom and peace in Tibet.

The gathering of about 300 people later took to the streets shouting anti-China slogans.
