Tibetans in Dharamshala continue to throng the streets in protest to highlight the Chinese suppression in their homeland as Beijing hosts the Olympics 2008.

Chime Yungdrung, one of the coordinators of the protests, said that the Tibetans have started the protests since the eve of the Beijing Olympics and that they will be intensified until the Beijing Olympics are over.

“China does not deserve to host the Olympics considering the ongoing suppression of the Tibetan people in Tibet,” Yungdrung says.

Tibetans and western supporters have been shouting anti-China slogans daily as they march the streets, and pray as they march for candlelight vigils in the evening.

Yungdrung said that there are street rallies, candlelight vigils, prayer sessions and silent protests, symbolising the lack of freedom of speech and expression in Tibet as well as in China.

Daily announcements are made using mobile loud speakers calling for Tibetans to join in the protests.

Four Tibetan NGOs: Tibetan Women’s Association, The National Democratic Party of Tibet, Gu Chu Sum Movement of Tibet, and Students for a Free Tibet are organising the protests.
