Dalai Lama leaves for Mumbai for medical check up

“The Dalai Lama has left for Mumbai for annual routine medical checkup. He will be examined on Saturday and will leave for France on Sunday,” said his secretary Chimme R. Chhoekyapa.

“He is in good health, it’s a routine checkup,” Chhoekyapa reiterates.

The Dalai Lama will meet with the French Parliamentarians for Tibet during his 12-day religious programme in France, Chhoekyapa said.

President Sarkozy is not meeting the Dalai Lama during his visit to France from August 12-23, but a meeting has been planned before the end of the year.

Secretary of the Tibet Bureau in Paris, Wangpo Bashi, told AFP that the timing is not right for a meeting during the time of the Olympics, stating that such a meeting could hamper the on-going talks between the envoys of the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government.
