After a 21-day journey by varied means of transport, from the most primitive to the most modern, Tibet’s eight delegates to the Asian Relations Conference arrived in Delhi on Wednesday. In their flowing, many-coloured robes, with hair plaited and worn in twin topknots and with lapis lazuli ear-rings, they are a picturesque group.

The delegation started from Lhasa on February 26, travelled on horse back from Gangtok, a 15-day journey; from Gangtok to Siliguri by car; from Siliguri to Calcutta by train; and from Calcutta to Delhi by air. They find Delhi’s heat trying.

The leader, Theiji Sampho, has brought special messages for Mr. Gandhi and Pandit Nehru. The Deputy Leader is Kanchuniji Lowang.

Two members of the delegation can speak English and will act as interpreters. One of them is accompanied by his wife, the only woman member of the delegation.

The leader will address the Conference on the opening day in Tibetan. His speech will be translated in English.

Two out of 11 delegates to the Conference from Palestine arrived in the morning by air from Bombay.

The Chinese delegation is arriving by air in New Delhi via Calcutta on Saturday.
